Valley Camp is Cuckoo for CoCoRaHS

Valley Camp is now an official CoCoRaHS reporting station.

I suppose you are all wondering what's with the strange acronym CoCoRaHS, and, why we have gone cuckoo?

From the official website for CoCoRaHS:

The Community Collaborative Rain, Hail and Snow Network or CoCoRaHS is a non-profit community-based network of volunteers of all ages and backgrounds working together to measure and report precipitation rain, hail, and snow. As most Washington residents know, precipitation can vary greatly with location, topography, storm type and season. CoCoRaHS was developed to supplement existing observation networks, aiding meteorologists, engineers, hydrologists, insurance experts, the media, and many others, in studying the variability of precipitation and in the analysis of extreme precipitation events much like the December 2007 flood event in western Washington.

Since we get asked so often, "does it rain here much?", we decided it was time to take to the Internet and report what we collect every day.

We will be reporting our precipitation totals for the past 24 hours every morning at 7:00 AM, you will be able to see this data at:

http://www.cocorahs.org/ViewData/ListDailyPrecipReports.aspx
Enter Station Number: WA-KG-143
Then chose the time period your interested in seeing data.

We just started today, September 16th, so come on back often to check in and see how much rain, hail or snow we really do get here at Valley Camp, the place set apart up in the Cascade Mountains.

See you on down the trail
